Review of Sony WH-100X M3

Music is a language that doesn’t speak in particular words. It speaks in emotions, and if it’s in the bones, it’s in the bones.”

While music might have no limitations or an ending, when it comes to listening to music on devices,  it’s not true, especially talking about headphones. Sony has always been a name to reckon with in the headphones  because of its powerful wireless active noise cancellation offerings.  Priced at Rs 29,990, the recently launched Sony WH-1000X M3 headphones aim to enhance that legacy. As Keith Richards said if it’s in the bones, it’s in the bones. Sony as a  company has always been known for making some  great audio products starting from Walkman cassette players, CD players to Walkman phones. The recipe is not only in their bones but also in their blood. The third-generation of 1000X series headphones comes with significant improvements such as new QN1 HD noise cancellation processor,  improved Sony’s SENSE engine, comfort, fit, and audio quality. We have been listening to this headphone for a while now, here’s our review of Sony WH-1000X M3.

The design is outstanding the WH-1000X M3 looks exactly like its predecessor with a few improvements such as better band cushioning, broader earcups that now fit better and the frame is compact compared to 1000X M2.

The comfort level is arguably one of the most important that Sony has focused on. The headband now gets the soft foam cushioning instead of the metal, the earcups too get the soft and comfortable cushioning – ensuring that the headphone feels easy on head and ears while maintaining the premium aesthetics of the headphone. They are also foldable for easy storage and portability. Somehow, Sony has also managed to reduce the weight of the M3, which adds up to the comfort level of the headphone. We didn’t have any fatigue or irritation while wearing this headphone for hours.

Sony WH-1000X M3 excels in this department with its all-new QN1 chip and Sense Engine that proven to be quite effective and responsive too. The moment we turned on the headphone and active noise cancellation the surrounding just disappeared.
The new chip also did a great job at separating the ANC effect from the music.
The company has also provided a dedicated ANC button as mentioned earlier that really comes handy to toggle between noise cancellation feature on/off. Apart from this, the headphones automatically measure the change in atmospheric pressure and make the necessary adjustments in noise cancellation accordingly. In short, it is well suited for walking, cycling, air travel and many more, the feature competition misses out on and it gives WH-1000X M3 an edge over others.
